The Delaware River Watershed provides water to over 17 million people and supports a world-class trout fishery and bald eagles.


Seasons and LimitsThe National Park Service does not operate any lodging or camping facilities within Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.

Camping is available only at private or commercial campsites. Keep in mind that most land in the river valley is privately owned and should not be used without permission. Always make reservations in advance, especially for a holiday weekend.

Primitive camping is available on Pennsylvania State Forest land with a permit, which may be obtained free of charge by stopping by the National Park Service’s Barryville Office located on NY Route 97 or calling (845) 557-0222.

There is a Pennsylvania State Forest primitive camping area for river users only within the Buckhorn Natural Area of Delaware State Forest near Pond Eddy, NY. There are no facilities at this location and you must get there by water. Free permits are available by calling the National Park Service Barryville Office at (845) 557-0222.
